A thousand days in Venice

As I finish reading,

as I dwell on words I’ve read,

I realise how I rush

at life

how I get caught up

in your hectic pace

your must do

have to

get up and go

don’t miss out

got to be there

GOT

TO

BE

WHERE?

Where is better than here?

Here as the dawn unfolds,

here as the soft white clouds part to reveal

a clear, azure sky.

Here as I savour the soft, warm air ……

Take the moment.

Dwell in it, receive it.

It is a gift from God.

He’s given it.

We can receive it……

Not as a greedy child

tearing off the wrapping

tossing the gift aside

desperate for the next.

Not like that.

But as one who

savours the receiving,

the paper, the opening,

the look of the giver,

the place where you receive,

the slow, gentle revelation

of gift

…… and the gift,

just for you,

fashioned, chosen,

special.

This moment,

this gift,

for you, My child,

receive it,

receive.

( ‘Be still my soul’ re-learned, re-captured, through the words of a holiday read … thank you, Lord)
